	Mr Player completed a Bachelor of Dental Science degree at the University of Melbourne in 1984. From 1985 until 1992 he was employed in a number of private dental practices in Melbourne. This experience enabled him to practise a wide range of procedures and to gain an appreciation of the challenges of private general dental practice. In 1991 and 1992 he completed a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry at the University of Melbourne, majoring in oral anatomy, oral pathology, orthodontics and oral surgery. This further training and qualification was a stepping stone to selection for entry into a specialist training program. From 1993 to 1996 inclusive he was an accredited trainee in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Brisbane and Newcastle as part of the Queensland program. During this time he held a number of registrar positions and completed a Masters degree by coursework in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Queensland. This training and qualification entitled him to specialist registration as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon throughout Australia and New Zealand. In 1997 he commenced public and private specialist practice. He is currently primarily engaged in private practice in Launceston and Burnie. He is also a visiting consultant at the Launceston General Hospital. He is involved with teaching undergraduate medical and dental students, and training junior doctors. Mr Player is a member of the Australian Dental Association, the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He practises most aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery but has a special interest in corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) and dental implantology.
